What is a normal menstruation?

A normal period lasts between 3 and 7 days, with total blood loss of 30-40 ml per cycle. Bleeding often begins lightly, becomes heavier in the middle and then subsides.

Characteristics of a normal menstruation

  • A regular cycle of 21-35 days.
  • The first 1-2 days may have more intense bleeding, then it becomes lighter.
  • Blood loss between 30-40 ml throughout the cycle.
  • Occasional mild cramps, but no extreme pain.

What affects menstruation?

  • Hormone balance determines the duration and intensity of bleeding.
  • Lifestyle (diet, exercise and stress) can affect the cycle.
  • Contraception can reduce or regulate bleeding.

When should you consult a doctor?

If your period changes suddenly, such as if it becomes much heavier, lighter or more painful than usual.
