How do you use a menstrual cup? If this is, or will be, your first time using a menstrual cup, you’re probably wondering if you’re inserting it correctly. Don’t worry! We’re happy to help! In this blog, we explain to you exactly how to use a menstrual cup.
All about the menstrual cup
A menstrual cup is a reusable menstrual product used as an alternative to tampons or pads. It is a small, flexible cup made of silicone that is inserted into the vagina to collect menstrual blood. Unlike tampons, which absorb blood, the menstrual cup captures the blood and can be worn for several hours before needing to be emptied and cleaned.
Using menstrual cups has several benefits, including reducing waste because they are reusable, long-term cost savings because they last several years, and the ability to catch more blood than tampons or pads, making them ideal for people with heavy periods.
Although using a menstrual cup may take some getting used to at first, many women soon find it a convenient and comfortable alternative to traditional menstrual products.
Inserting a menstrual cup

- Check: Once the cup is inserted, check that it has opened properly. You should not feel any discomfort if the cup is inserted correctly. If necessary, help the cup create a vacuum by lightly pulling on it. This will ensure that the cup stays securely in place.
