Tips for inserting the Beppy Cup
When inserting a menstrual cup, it is important that you are relaxed. If you are tense the vaginal canal contracts and then inserting the cup is a lot more difficult.
When using for the first time, you can also practice in the shower first. There are different ways you can insert the cup. For the Beppy Cup, the “U-fold” and the “punch down fold” works best. You can see exactly how to do the different folds in our Instagram Highlights or check out our blog!
There are of course several folds, it is wise to practice so you know exactly which one suits you best. Every body is different. What works for you may not work for someone else.
You fold the cup together in the middle and hold the top of the cup with one hand. Then you assume a comfortable position, squatting or, for example, on the toilet with one leg up. Next, insert the cup as deeply as possible. It is important that the cup is as close to the cervix as possible. Of course, this depends on the position of your cervix. When you release the cup, it unfolds automatically. You can also pull a little on the loop, when you feel resistance you know that the that the cup is properly “vacuum”. Be careful not to pull too hard.
With your finger, you can feel if the cup is well placed. Also, the bottom of the cup should be (almost) flat. When this is the case, you know that the cup is open. If you do not feel the cup and when the cup does not irritate, the cup is good.
When you first start using a cup, it may take some time to get the hang of it. Don’t give up! You can try again!
When removing the cup, you should always break the vacuum first. You can do this by pushing in the cup on one of the sides. Then you can use the removal loop to gently remove the cup when you feel no resistance.
Here a few additional tips for removing the cup:
– Keep breathing and stay calm!
– The vaginal canal is not infinite! You will not lose the cup.
– Don’t stress, because if you do, the vaginal canal will tighten!
The difference between using a tampon and a menstrual cup is that with a cup you don’t have to deal with an annoying string. Also, you can hold the cup for up to 8 hours so you don’t have to change it as often as a tampon.
